Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) is the largest, oldest, most powerful and influential party in Africa, leading with over 12 million members. It is a leading liberation party that fought for the independence of many countries south of the Sahara desert.

Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) was officially established on February 5, 1977, following the merger of the Tanganyika African National Union (TANU), the ruling party in Mainland Tanzania led by the first President of Tanzania, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, and the Afro-Shirazi Party (ASP), the ruling party in Zanzibar led by the first President of Zanzibar, Sheikh Amaan Abeid Karume.

CCM has continued to win all six (6) Presidential elections since the introduction of multi-party politics in 1992, securing a large number of MPs in the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Zanzibar House of Representatives. Leaders who won the Presidency on a CCM ticket are Benjamin Mkapa, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, and Dr. John Joseph Pombe Magufuli.

Party Affiliates

To ensure that CCM serves all groups, the Party has three affiliates that work to unite the youth (UVCCM), women (UWT - Union of Tanzanian Women), and the Parent's Association (Jumuiya ya Wazazi Tanzania). Each of these affiliates has leaders whose structure mirrors that of CCM itself, from the National Chairperson level down to the branch levels.
